Yesterday was our first full day back in Fethiye, it also coincided with the last day of the Caliş festival so a perfect opportunity to head down and explore a community we've been neglecting since our first arrival a little over a year ago. As per the weather report the day started out dark and gloomy but we bit the bullet and headed off. Due to the weather we thought the festival had been cancelled but luckily there were some die hard people still committed to turning it into a success. After a quick English breakfast (sad I know, but we tend to have one day of 'Western food' when we travel as we usually feel deprived of such luxuries in Romania and need our 'fix'), then off to explore. Two of the earliest people we 'bumped' into were our friends the artist Tina McCallan and teacher extraordinaire Sandy Mills manning one of Tina's collaborative community projects in the park. A wonderful way to get the community and expat community to interact. Even Jens did a square with all the precision of Van Gough. We were then joined by one of my first friends here in Fethiye, the lovely Claudia and her children and so proceeded to meander down the beach promenade taking in all the sights and sounds of people enjoying their holidays including the odd pasty foreigner splayed out on the sand in anticipation of the sun which did finally beat back the clouds and by the late afternoon it really did feel like summer. Last but not least, being joined by Claudia's husband Yalcın we concluded the day with a wonderful Turkish dinner with a view to die for. All in all a wonderful first day.
